Number of days

Day 1 Kigali – Ruhengeri

We shall depart for Volcanoes des national park in the morning, arriving in good time for lunch at our lodge. Afternoon at leisure as well as get a briefing on our next day’s gorilla trekking expedition.

Ruhengeri is the closest town to the Volcanoes National Park and is therefore a convenient base from which to track mountain gorilla. Meals ad overnight at our lodge.

Day 2 Gorilla Trekking

Early breakfast, we leave to the park headquarters for a briefing and embark on our gorilla trekking .While gorilla tracking you will be accompanied by a guide and usually two trackers. Visitors are allowed one hour with your allotted gorilla family. To find your family group the guide will lead you to where the gorillas were sighted on the previous day and then literally track them through the forest. The terrain is very rough, often over steep slopes covered with matted vegetation. Be prepared for rain, mud and giant stinging nettles – long trousers, gloves and a waterproof jacket will help. Approximate trek time: 3-8 hours. After our trek and humbled by this incredible experience, we drive from Volcanoes National Park back to Ruhengeri for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 Ruhengeri – Kigali

After leisurely breakfast, we leave for Kigali. We shall have a city tour of Kigali, with a visit to the genocide memorial centre as well as local women basket workshops.

Lunch, and transfer to your hotel/airport to connect with your flight back home.
